Located in a hamlet belonging to the municipality of Ouanne, Riad Bourguignon is set in an idyllic configuration, in the middle of an isolated and exotic countryside. Ideally located (180 km from Paris), the cottage offers the opportunity to discover a captivating territory thanks to the famous medieval shipyard of Guédelon, the Puisaye or Auxerre city.
The Riad Bourguignon is an old farm whose the house has been renovated into a family cottage that can accommodate up to 8 people. Its typical rural architecture will immerse you in a friendly atmosphere in the countryside.
The cottage has a semi enclosed courtyard, with in its center, a magnificent fountain recalling the architecture of the Moroccan riads. This space, a haven of peace and history, is located 2h30 from Paris center and 30 minutes from Auxerre city.
I renovated this beautiful farm in order to offer you an optimal healing in the countryside. It is with pleasure that I welcome you to this haven of peace, calm and beauty. I had a crush on this vast space which at the time was an agricultural farm.
So I will be happy to tell you the story of the Riad Bourguignon and give you the desire to expand your horizons by visiting all the regions around northern burgundy: La Puisaye, La Forterre, Auxerrois, Tonnerois…

The Story
Ouanne city is a municipality located in the department of Yonne in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté. Originally, the locality already existed in Gallo-Roman times under the name of Odouna or Oduna.
After the departure of the Roman legions, driven away by the barbarians from the east, the name of «Odouna» will evolve and change over the centuries: Ouayne, Ouene, Ouaine, to become Ouanne, after the Revolution of 1789.
The old station of Ouanne is known from a 3rd century marble fragment preserved in the Autun Museum. The marble indicates the distances on the Roman road from Auxerre city to Entrains-sur-Nohain city.
The municipality also represents the eastern border of the Puisaye region.
Known for its architectural heritage, especially thanks to the red stone of Puisaye, the region is a true testimony of the rock exploitation of the time. Indeed, around Ouanne and in the Puisaye in general, several quarries have been discovered. These extraction zones allowed the exploitation of ferruginous stone, used in the monumental buildings of the Yonne. This stone, still present in Puisaye, is currently used for the construction of the castle of Guédelon.
Although this heritage is one of the oldest in the department, the Puisaye offers many other stories. Don’t forget the Boutissaint Natural Park, the Castle of Saint-Fargeau city and other treasures.
Ouanne is now a small, quiet and serene French village with a few small shops (bakery, butcher, small supermarket…).
